Description

This church cup closely follows the distinctive design of Peter Young, another Albany pewterer. While most of Young’s pewter work was marked it appears that Timothy Brigden marked his pieces (including this one) more frequently, perhaps attempting to establish a connection between his name and this design.

Related examples: Yale University Art Gallery, Brooklyn Museum, and Museum of Fine Arts Boston.

ProvenanceDr. and Mrs. James J. Butler, Houston; given to MFAH, 2013.
