DescriptionAlison Rossiter processed unexposed photographic papers that expired decades ago, looking for accidental light exposure, fingerprints, mold, and atmospheric damage. Signs of the papers’ historical deterioration embedded in the print are the very purpose of the work. Some contain the latent images of damage wrought by time that Rossiter seeks, and these she processes traditionally, whereas others have been fully exposed over time and are no longer light sensitive. She selectively develops portions of these papers by dipping or pouring darkroom chemistry onto them to create abstract fields of light and dark. This triptych depicts the overlapping curl of the paper inside a tube as developing chemistry was poured through it, forming a photogram of itself.
