DescriptionThis a commemorative plate for the opening of the Erie Canal in New York. When completed in 1825, it was the second longest canal in the world (after the Grand Canal in China) and greatly enhanced the development and economy of the state. The plate’s border shows views of the canal’s locks and barges.
