Description

John Fleming Hunt operated the Rusk County, Texas, site from approximately 1889 to 1900. Hunt may have learned the trade from Alexander “Ellick” Brown, who was formerly enslaved at the Taylor Brown pottery.

This pitcher is much larger in diameter than is typical for its height, giving its heavy, squat appearance.

Provenance[Jon St. Clair, Austin]; purchased by William J. Hill (1934–2018), Houston, 2010; given to MFAH, 2012.
