established first by systemic inequities, but it is enforced by geography.
Alejandro Cartagena’s Carpoolers depicts workers from within the city of
Monterrey, Mexico, traveling to luxury construction sites in surrounding rural
areas. To save on the costs of commuting, workers pack into a single truck,
filling the cab and the bed as they migrate daily. Photographed from an
overpass, Cartagena’s works emphasize the struggle of the labor classes as they
attempt to traverse geographic and economic lines.
