DescriptionIn Russia and the Ukraine, the 1970s and 1980s saw a shift from an era of stagnation to one of increasing transparency of glasnost. With those social changes came a freedom for photographers such as Yuri Rybchinsky to depict real life, rather than images of a Potemkin village approved by the state.
ProvenanceThe artist; Lucian Perkins; [Naila Alexander, New York]; purchased by Richard S. Jackson and Dodie Otey Jackson, Houston; given to MFAH, 2014.
