To accompany the deluxe edition of the Symbolist writer Léon-Paul Fargue’s book Banalité, Roger Parry created 16 images that were tipped-in to the volume as photogravures. His illustrations, each inspired by one of Fargue’s poems or prose essays, pushed the boundaries of the medium: photograms, solarization, negative prints, photomontages, multiple exposures, and “straight” photographs infused with a sinister, almost film-noir, sense of foreboding.
