his series Glimpses of the Fifties and Sixties,
Sam Nhlengethwa critically comments on the institutionalized injustice of
apartheid in his native South Africa. To create these montages, he drew from
the image archive of Drum magazine
(which began its publication in 1951 with a wide black readership) as well as
his own family photo albums.
