DescriptionTo create this visually pristine and thrilling photograph of a well-known amusement park, Liao made 10 separate photographs with a large format camera using 8 x 10 film because the larger negative has higher resolution and greater density of detail. Using a computer, he digitally combined the negatives and smoothed them into one seamless photograph depicting a sunset on the island’s shore. However, a closer look exposes the image’s digital origins—especially in the quality of end-of-day sunlight applied a little too evenly to the park and apartment buildings, casting the photograph in an artificial light.
