DescriptionBorn in Georgia in 1800, Taylor Brown lived in Alabama before arriving in Rusk County, Texas, by 1839. Though census records consistently list him as a farmer, he was operating a gristmill and a pottery by 1860 according to the U. S. Manufacturing Schedule for that year. By that time he had also amassed significant wealth in land and in an enslaved workforce.
