DescriptionIn portraits of Miss Ima Hogg by Robert Joy (B.71.132 and B.2017.4), she wears an empire-style evening dress from the New York design house of Milgrim. Sally Milgrim was one of the leading American designers of women’s fashion from the 1920s until she retired in 1960. She introduced individuality, comfort, and practicality through her designs, which carried on after she retired. Miss Hogg likely purchased the dress at the Milgrim department store on 57th Street near Fifth Avenue in New York in the 1960s.
