Koret was founded in 1938 by Joseph and Stephanie Koret. In a small loft in San Francisco, the Korets designed and produced coordinating skirts and sweaters that were fashionable yet colorful and comfortable. They expanded their line to include coordinated collections: pants, skirts, woven shirts, knit tees, jackets and sweaters.

In 1961, Koret became the first ladies apparel manufacturer to develop garments using a post-cure process resulting in wrinkle free clothing. The weekend wear, easy care separates, were named Francisca by Koret.

In the early 80’s, Koret became one of the first coordinated sportswear lines to extend beyond misses sizes. Koret special size lines were launched: Koret Petite and Koret Woman brands, in addition to proportioned pants in misses sizes.

In the mid 90’s, Koret partnered with DuPont TeflonTM to become one of the first women’s apparel brands to use a stain resistant finish on clothing. The KorapelTM treatment is still used today.

In 1999, Koret was acquired by the Kellwood Company.
