Bedford Lemere senior (1839-1910) established the company in the mid-1860s at 147 Strand where it remained until 1946. Henry [Harry] Bedford Lemere was born in 1865 and effectively took over the running of the firm during the 1880s by which time the architectural specialisation had already been established. The company remained the leading purveyor of domestic, commercial and industrial images until his death in 1944. The company moved to 3 Park Lane, Croydon from 1947-1957 and South Park Hill Road, South Croydon from 1957. Most of the surviving 20,000 plus negatives and prints (as well as daybooks) are held by English Heritage’s National Monuments Record.
