Jacob Hoefnagel
Jacob Hoefnagel
Flemish, 1575–c. 1630
In 1592, at the age of nineteen, Jacob Hoefnagel produced a book of fifty-two engravings based on paintings by his father, Joris. The book is made up of four sections, each with it’s own title page and a dozen engravings of assorted flora and fauna. After his father’s death, Jacob lived variously in Italy, Sweden and Prague. He spent much of his time entangled in financial quarrels of various kinds as he did painting and engraving.
