Since 1988 he has headed the ceramics department Arizona State University where he is now a Regents Professor. Awards: Aileen Osborn Webb National Artist Award, 2003; American Craft Council College of Fellows, 2003; Arizona Commission on the Arts, Artist Fellowship, 1999; National Endowment for the Arts, Artist Fellowship, 1992, 1989.
