BiographyAmerican, born 1938, Garden Grove, California; died 2008. Studio: Los Angeles, CA. Education: BFA Chouinard Art School, Los Angeles, CA 1961. Bacerra headed the Ceramics Department first at Chouinard from 1961 to 1972, then at the Otis/Parsons School of Art, Los Angeles until 1998. Awards: Bacerra received Outstanding Achievement Award from the National Council on the Education of Ceramic Art in 1998 and is a fellow of the American Crafts Council. Commissions: Los Angeles Public Library; Sprint Corporation. Art: Bacerra is unmatched in his ability to create richly colored and complex surface decoration keeping in tradition with Japanese Imari works but with his own contemporary spin.
