BiographyGaston Paris was a commercial photographer based in Paris who made photographs for “VU” magazine (a prototype for “Life” magazine in the US). He also made photographs of the mannequins in the 1938 Surrealist exhibition, which were reproduced in “Marianne,” another French publication named after the symbolic, female representation of France. His photos of this exhibition really were the most interesting, taken from unusual angles and in croppings that differentiated his work from more famous photographers who took pictures of the same subject matter, e.g. Raoul Ubac, Man Ray, Joseph Breitenbach. Little facts are known about his life and photography, but at some point in his career he was represented by the French photo agency, Roger-Viollet.
