BiographyJan Eisenloeffel (1876-1957)The silversmith Johannes Wigbold (Jan) Eisenloeffel trained at the Rijksnormaalschool in Amsterdam. In 1896 he started working for the firm of Hoeker and was later appointed artistic director of the Amstelhoek metal workshop. Around 1899 he became interested in contemporary movements in decorative art. He was influenced by architects like H.P. Berlage and K.P.C. de Bazel, who championed obvious, visible construction and honest use of materials. Eisenloeffel's designs were sold by Het Binnenhuis and later by his own company De Woning. His atelier turned out hand-made silver services and machine-made copper objects. Later in life, he made one-off objects decorated primarily with enamel.
