BiographyToshiko Takaezu has been working with clay for more than 60 years. Born and raised in Hawaii, she studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art under the master Finnish potter Majia Grotell. Grotell became her mentor and taught her the importance of individual expression and experimentation. Along with Grotell, a trip to Japan in the 1950s, where she visited the potter Shoji Hamada, and the landscape of her native Hawaii have shaped the course of her work.
