BiographyDale Chihuly, master glassblower and sculptor, is perhaps the best-known artist working in glass today. His work--whether it is small-scale sculptural objects or chandeliers and large-scale installations--is well represented in public and private collections worldwide. Chihuly graduated from the University of Wisconsin where he studied under Harvey Littleton, a renowned glass artist now recognized as the father of the studio glass movement. He also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design later becoming head of the sculpture department. After RISD, Chihuly settled in Seattle and founded the Pilchuk Glass School, effectively making the city the center of glass art in America. He hired as assistants some of today's best known glass artists, including William Morris, Flora Mace and Joey Kirkpatrick, and Benjamin Moore, gave them valuable experience and acted as a mentor.
