BiographyBorn: 1943, Copenhagen, Denmark. Studio: Hoerve, Denmark. Education: 1961-65, The School of Arts and Craft, Copenhagen, Denmark; 1966, Escuela de Diseno y Artesanias, Mexico; University of California, Berkeley. Her contact with Peter Voulkos while in Berkeley was inspirational freeing Manz from the traditional limitations and expectations of her education. Awards: The Danish State Art Foundation, The Kroyer Awards, Lifelong Danish Government Grant, 1998, Thorvald Bindesboell Medal, 2001, and many others. Art: Manz settled in her native Denmark to make pots of startling simplicity and modernism. She works in cast porcelain, using the translucency of the material to meld any pattern on the inner and outer skins of her cylinders.
