Description

Though he was born in Chicago, Wayne Miller recognized that there were boroughs of the city and whole communities of which he was unaware. To introduce Chicago’s predominantly Black South Side to both himself and to a broader public, he began a multi-year project he named after Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. Miller noted that capturing “a thriving class, a bustling almost self-contained community came as a surprise to a lot of viewers.” Miller’s Bronzeville highlighted the active commercial areas, popular music clubs, and community of intellectuals and social activists that called the area their home.
