Brad Miller’s Bubble Shadows series stems from the photographer’s longstanding interest in the archetypal patterns of the natural world. To capture the delicate latticework of bubble clusters, Miller made brief exposures of the foamy bubble solution placed over negatives without the use of a camera. This method allowed Miller to adjust the solution to achieve structures of varying dimensions. As the bubbles combine, the aggregate surface tension pulls the spheres into complex geometric forms as the systems attempt to reach equilibrium. The intersections of individual bubbles result in the dark lines that define Miller’s compositions.
