1951 to 1953, Robert Frank, who is best known for his famous series The
Americans, photographed the streets of postwar London. During that time, he
captured hundreds of men and women whose dress reflects their class and lot in
life. Pictures from this series feature anxious businessmen in nearly identical
pinstripe suits, with the morning newspaper in their pockets. The men neither
look at the camera nor at each other, locked in similar gestures and routines.
