DescriptionIn the 1990s, Laura Pickett Calfee began photographing homes that had been occupied by generations of the same family, emphasizing the layered accumulation and spatial organization of our most lived-in spaces. Although these pictures are not portraits in the conventional sense, they offer insight into the individuals whose spaces are depicted and draw out surprising connections between these highly personalized environments and broader cultural trends. Few figures have surpassed the cultural significance of Elvis Presley, whose likeness appears repeatedly in this interior through memorabilia and novelty products, suggesting a devotional level of fanship to “the King.”
