"I was interested in lucha libre [Mexican wrestling] since I was a little girl," Lourdes Grobet recalled. Yet, she was not allowed to attend the matches: "The problem was that I was a girl." Grobet finally attended as an adult with her camera, but found new resistance to her presence: "The organizers were annoyed with me at first, because they had never had a woman photographer doing what I was doing." Focusing her camera on female wrestlers, Grobet highlighted the double standards that women pursuing many professions face. She said, "I was taking photographs of cultural paradigms."
