On June 10, 1978, Cuban television premiered Para bailar (For Dancing). The program aired every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and was so popular that it “paralyzed” the nation. Its young hosts became celebrities, with many going on to careers in entertainment. On the program, conceived as a live contest with an audience, couples competed in various dance genres and were eliminated over the weeks and months leading to the annual finale. Although taken on commission, Pirole’s photographs showcase his humor and the freshness that characterizes his personal work, depicting an often-overlooked aspect of Cuban culture.

Aunque encar- gado, este trabajo de Pirole refleja el humor y la frescura característicos de su obra más personal, además de ilustrar una arista poco representada de la cultura cubana.
