DescriptionThis figure is of a Dutchman sitting side straddle on the back of a guardian lion. He holds in his hands a ribbon tied to a brocade ball resting in his lap. In traditional Chinese culture, a ball like this one is associated with a male lion.
Provenance[John J. Klejman (1906–1995), by May 6, 1959]; purchased by [Ginsburg & Levy, May 6, 1959–June 22, 1959]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, 1959; given to MFAH, by 1966.
