Description

James Balog combined more than 800 photographic
fragments to create Sequoia “Stagg.”
Balog is known for his fearlessness in pursuing images to photograph. To create
this photographic mosaic, he suspended himself from the top of two giant
sequoias and photographed the “Stagg” as he descended.

Measuring 109 feet at its base circumference, the “Stagg” is one of the
largest trees in the world. Located in Yosemite National Park in California,
the tree was named for athlete-turned-collegiate coach Amos Alonzo Stagg.
During his active years, from 1890 to 1946, Stagg was credited with
transforming football into the game it is today.
