Naomi Savage’s work is often discussed in the context of her uncle and teacher,
Man Ray, her photographs stand alone as innovative contributions to a revival
of alternative photographic processes that began in the 1960s. The subtle hints
of pastel in Halo offer a glimpse into the artist’s technical breadth,
demonstrating her interest in combining traditional photographic techniques
with hand-drawn elements and abstracted forms. For Savage, each work in her
eponymous portfolio is meant to “present [her] view of the world with humor,
beauty, and unique variations.”
ProvenanceNeal Dearling; given to MFAH, 1983.
