Description

After moving to Berlin in 1928, the Hungarian photographer
Martin Munkácsi brought a modern spirit of spontaneity and freedom to fashion photography,
as in this dynamic image of the dancer Tibor von Halmay seemingly suspended in
indeterminate space. The image was part of a series published in the November
1932 issue of
Die Dame
(The Lady), the
leading illustrated journal catering to “the new woman” in interwar Germany.
