Description

Philip-Lorca diCorcia’s early
fashion work made him a cult icon, though in the past decade and a half he has
concentrated on street photography. DiCorcia distinguishes himself from
previous generations of street photographers in his methodology: extrapolating
the theatrical quality obtained from his fashion work, he sets up flash
lighting at selected locations on average city streets, and then photographs
passersby as they walk under the lights. This creates a hyperreality that
vividly suspends urban life.
