Anton Bruehl, like many other photographers between the two world wars, found industrial architecture to be a subject in perfect harmony with an emerging modernist aesthetic. Such structures were emblematic of the new era’s bold functionalism, devoid of classical echoes, and easily yielded a dynamic abstraction when translated into two dimensions, further emphasized in this example by Bruehl’s “worm’s eye” view.
