There is an engraved crest on the lid depicting a winged eagle holding an arrow. The same crest is on the side of the base of the tureen.
Stamped "790" on the lid, on the underside of rim between two handles, and the underside of the tureen
Scratched onto the underside of the base: "4118"
Stamped on the inside of the lid: "P.S" in a double oval / Lion passant, looking left, but facing out / "R" in square with nipped corners and cleft underneath.
Stamped on the edge of the rim of the lid: "1"
Stamped on the handle of the lid: "P.S" in a double oval / Monarch looking right / Lion passant, looking left, but facing out. [see Grimwade, 2nd ed., mark no. 2235, p. 162]
Scratched onto the underside of the base: "4118"
