DescriptionThis print, made in collaboration, was created through a combination of the exposure of light to sensitized paper and the chemical reaction of excretions from the plants placed on the paper. Under the intense heat and light of the Arizona sun during exposure, the plants withered and released liquids. The artists began this series using William Henry Fox Talbot’s original formulas to sensitize photographic paper, then worked with the variables of their light-sensitive solutions, the types of paper, and intensity of the light, which, combined with the chemicals emerging from the organic matter, changed the color palette of the final prints. Each unique print continues to transform with minor color shifts over time due to the introduction of the organic chemicals.
