Lynn Davis is well-known for
her surveys of natural and man-made wonders, including monumental icebergs in
Greenland, landscapes and seascapes, and the pyramids in Egypt. This photograph
of the sun setting on a dark, expansive ocean is part of her 1993–96 series Evening/Northumberland Strait. The vast,
endless view of the ocean creates both a sense of calm and of overwhelming
nature.
