Though it appears to be shot from a diving board overlooking
an immense ocean, this photograph was created on the roof of Vogue’s
Paris studio. Wooden boxes make up the diving board while an out-of-focus, low
wall gives the appearance of the water meeting the horizon. Unsatisfied with
the aesthetic limits imposed by the studio setting, George Hoyningen-Huené
staged this photograph and produced one of fashion photography’s most iconic
images.
