One of the great photographers of the American Southwest, Laura Gilpin photographed the region’s distinctive landscape and native peoples with skill and sensitivity. In 1930, while driving to the Grand Canyon with her life partner, Betsy Forster, Gilpin stopped to photograph Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. As in much of her work, Gilpin chose to print this image with platinum, a process that lends a soft warmth and tonal subtly to Bryce Canyon’s delicate rock spires.
