Martin Parr lived in Boyle in Roscommon County during the early 1980s, photographing throughout Western Ireland. Parr’s black-and-white documentary work captures the often-humorous tensions between the region’s pastoral traditions and modern life. This picture was included in a book Parr published titled A Fair Day—Photographs from West of Ireland that encompassed photographs made over the course of a single day.
