DescriptionThis redware relief-molded camel-shaped teapot with a howdah decorated with two panels bears elements from John Stalker and George Parker's Treatise of Japaning and Varnishing, published in Oxford, England, in 1688. On one side is a figure holding an umbrella taken from Pl. 18 and a building possibly from Pl. 24. On the other side is a panel with a building beside a warrior figure who is not from the treatise.

Provenance[Ginsburg & Levy, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, October 31, 1961; given to MFAH, by 1966.
