DescriptionNikki S. Lee is among
the younger generations of artists indebted to Cindy Sherman. Her work marks a
distinctive departure from Sherman’s style in terms of methodology. Lee’s
starting point was a real community of people she observed for months in order
to learn their gestures and dresses, and to develop a persona as a member of
the group. In The Hispanic Project
series, Lee spent a few months with teenagers in New York City’s East Harlem.
