DescriptionOliver Wolcott was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, an officer in the Revolutionary War, a member of the Continental Congress, and governor of Connecticut. Asher Brown Durand made this engraving after a painting by Thomas Sully, who came to the United States from England as a boy and lived most of his life in Philadelphia. Durand went on to become a leading landscape painter of the Hudson River School.
