DescriptionInge
Morath was one of the first female photographers asked to join Magnum Photo
Agency in Paris. This portrait is from one of Morath’s earliest assignments
with the agency, when she was dispatched to document the residents of two
divergent districts in London: SoHo and Mayfair. SoHo had become a fashionable
district, with its local pubs providing a meeting place for intellectuals,
artists, and poets. Mayfair had long been inhabited by well-to-do families, such
as the Rothschilds and Mrs. Eveleigh Nash.
