During the 1970s, Geoff Winningham became the preeminent chronicler of the social rites and rituals that define Texas life and cultural identity—pro wrestling, high school football, livestock shows, and rodeo. Drawing out the oddities and excitements that accompany agricultural competitions, Winningham’s pictures often center the roles of animals and their close relationships to the humans who raise them.
