Son of a noted Victorian engraver and an artist himself,
Edward Gurden Dalziel apparently stopped by the Debenham studio en route to a costume
ball. His elaborate sun-and-moon or day-and-night get-up is a perfect analog
for photography’s negative and positive.
ProvenanceMr. and Mrs. Alvin S. Romansky, Houston; given to MFAH, 1978.
