[1] Karl Nierendorf (Cologne, 1889–New York, 1947), a German banker-turned-art dealer, first opened a gallery in Cologne in 1920 with his brother. Josef Nierendorf (Cologne, 1898–Berlin, 1949) ran the gallery in Berlin when Karl moved to New York, where he opened a branch in January 1937.
[2] This was sold at auction in 1967 and again in 1972, both times by unnamed individuals.
