DescriptionLike tea, coffee, and spices, sugar was a extremely valuable commodity. Usually sold in tall, solid cones, from which a day's needs were chipped or scraped, and wrapped in red or blue paper, sugar was often kep in locked sugar chests, which were sometimes displayed in the sitting room.
