Object Type
ProvenancePrivate collection, Pont-Aven; Jean- Marie Le Naour, Pont-Aven [1]; [Philippe Perronneau, Dijon, 1969] [2]; purchased by Mr. and Mrs. John A. Beck, Houston, 1969; given to MFAH, 1998.

[1] According to file documents, the work on wood was part of a door panel once in a building in Pont-Aven (today at the address of 15, avenue Général de Gaulle). In the late nineteenth century, the dwelling had been used as a post office. Bernard is thought to have painted the door, when the building was occupied by the aunt of the painter Ernest de Chamillard (1862-1931). The site and structural property were later purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Jean-Marie Le Naour, c. 1923. [MFAH object file-accessed by Robert McD. Parker, April 2024.]

[2] Correspondence from Philippe Perronneau in Dijon to Mr. and Mrs. John Beck dated July 8, 1969 discuss matters regarding the painting including the sale, shipping, and publication of the work. [MFAH object file-accessed by Robert McD. Parker, April 2024.]
