DescriptionThis clock was given as a wedding present in 1870. The figures on the clock include a mounted hunter who is about to kill a boar with a spear. Though the subject might seem violent today, images related to hunting and dead game were popular during the late nineteenth century and were considered especially appropriate for dining rooms.
ProvenanceGiven as a wedding gift to Eugene Girault (1832–1913) and Theresa Harriet Dickinson (1851–1921), St. Louis, Missouri, 1870; by descent to their granddaughter Eugenie Bullitt Branch (1899–1986), Cypress, Texas; given to MFAH, 1985.
