DescriptionThis glass celery vase, in a pattern today called “Westward Ho” but first named “Pioneer” by its manufacturer, was produced for a period of years just after the 1876 United States Centennial. The buffalo, deer, and log cabins decorating the body constitute a combination of highly romanticized images marketed at a time of aggressive westward expansion and settlement that devastated both Native American communities and the bison herds of the West.
